Howard Walters

	Howard 'Tumble' Walters, age 88, of DuQuoin, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at 2:10 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
	Mr. Walters had been a coal miner and a mine construction worker.  He was a member of the UMWA and the manager of Elkville Khorey League Midgets for several years.
	He was born May 8, 1913 at Vergennes Township in Jackson County, the son of Hiram and Kate (Nausley) Walters.  He married Naomi Wright on March 15, 1941 at Cape Girardeau, Mo. and she preceded him in death in April 1958.  He then married Eleanor Ward on February 29, 1964 at Havana, Ill. and she preceded him in death on August 17, 1984.
	Surviving are son, Frank 'Tom' and wife Yvonne 'Bunny' Walters of Percy; daughter, Kathleen Walters of Pinckneyville; sister, Cleta Wolfe of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Frankie Stowers of DuQuoin and Sandy Wagner of Guam; great-grandchildren, Matthew Stowers, Jessica, Ashley, Brandy and Shana Wagner; step-sons, Dick and wife Ida Ward of Canton, Ronnie and wife Joyce Ward of Hardy, Ark. and Wendell 'Mutt' and wife Sherry Ward of Springfield; 12 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Helen Johnson of DuQuoin and special neighbors, Tom and Eloise Threewitt.
	He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; two brothers; sister, Molly Benson; grandson, Rick Walters; one step-daughter; one step-grandson and one step-great-granddaughter.
	Funeral services were Saturday, December 22 at 11 a.m. at Parrish Cemetery in Vergennes with Rev. Terry Jackson officiating.
	Interment was in Parrish Cemetery.
	Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
	Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
